Principal Ecologist vacancy – location flexible (Kent/Newcastle/County Durham/Dundee). Hybrid/remote working options.
£40 to £53k depending on experience.
This position will suit an experienced Principal looking to join an established and growing multi-disciplinary company with a UK wide presence whilst receiving support to excel and progress in their career. Rocket Ecology works across sectors with a proven focus on the renewables and residential sectors. Our experience ranges from small developments to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPS).
With a full forward programme, we are looking for an experienced and capable Principal Ecologist to help manage our established expert team on projects across the UK. Reporting to the Regional Director, the role will be largely desk-based, and we are flexible in where you are located, with remote and hybrid working options also considered. Your role will include building client relationships, project management, and designing and planning ecological surveys and mitigation works. You will provide quality assurance by reviewing reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments and Method Statements.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience of writing and reviewing ecological reports including Habitat Regulations Assessment, ES Chapters, Ecological Impact Assessments and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals.
- Experience of managing and mentoring a team.
- Proven experience preparing UK and/or European Protected Species Mitigation (UK/EPSM) licences as named ecologist.
- A wide range of survey experience including protected species surveys and extended Phase 1 Habitat/UK Habitat Surveys.
- Experience of project management including fee quotation and tender creation
- Full Membership of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent.
- Experience with Arc GIS
- A full drivers licence.
- Although not crucial, holding protected species survey licences is beneficial especially, Class 2 bat survey licence. Strong botanical knowledge would also be an advantage.
As you will be in regular contact with clients and Rocket team members, you will be an excellent communicator, with a professional and courteous manner. Established client relationships would be an advantage.
